Living with Heart Failure
Living with Heart Failure
Heart failure means your heart is not pumping blood as well as it should, making it harder for your body to get the oxygen and nutrients it needs. According to the American Heart Association, more than 6 million Americans are living with heart failure, and while it’s a serious condition, it can be managed with the right care and lifestyle changes. Symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and swelling can impact daily life, but proper management can slow progression and improve quality of life.
Healthy habits play a critical role in living well with heart failure. Following a low-sodium diet, staying physically active within your limits, taking medications as prescribed, tracking your weight daily, and managing stress are all key to keeping symptoms under control. Avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol can also help protect your heart and prevent further damage. Small, consistent changes can add up to meaningful improvements in energy, strength, and overall health.
